How can I make sure that I use my credit card with security?

Fraud is, unfortunately, a crime which is becoming increasingly prevalent in today’s society. It is therefore important that you look after your credit card with prudence and defend yourself against fraudulent practices. In this section we have composed a list of tips to help you to use your credit card UK in safety and security.
    • When you receive your credit card, be sure to sign it as soon as you receive it, otherwise it could be taken by someone else and personalised with a signature of their own.

    • Destroy your PIN (personal identification number) as soon as you receive it. Memorise it and avoid writing it down.

    • Think twice about changing your PIN to an obvious number such as part of your phone number or your date of birth. This could easily be guessed by another.

    • If you order a replacement credit card then be sure to contact your credit card provider if your new card has not arrived safely within one week.

    • Make a note of your credit card provider’s help line number and carry it with you at all times, especially if you are going on holiday or visiting away from home for a time.

    • Keep your card in a safe place at all times, and make sure that you know where your card is at all times.

    • Go though your monthly credit card statements with a fine toothed comb, checking all of your transactions. Contact your credit card provider UK if you notice any discrepancies.

    • If you think that your credit card has been stolen then it is imperative that you contact both the police and your credit card provider as soon as possible. You will need to ask your credit card provider to cancel your card straight away, although some companies will ask you to back this up with a written request within a week.

    • Make sure that, if you use your credit card at an ATM to withdraw cash, nobody is standing close behind you. In this way many thieves note victim’s personal identification numbers- you will simply be making their job easier for them.

    • Should you decide to cease using a credit card then you should make sure that you close your account and destroy your card.
