What are credit reports UK and how are they used?

Credit reports are used by credit card companies in order to assess the individuals who apply for their products. Supplied by credit reference agencies, these reports are individual assessments based on credit history and records of any county court judgements, arrears or defaults. The report will consider your credit risk and the credit card company to which you have applied will use it as a basis to either accept or reject your application.

Should you be refused by a credit card company then you are within your rights in asking which credit reference agency they used. From this agency you will then be able to obtain a copy of your personalised credit report UK and see why the decision might have been made. You will then be able to find out more about your credit file and learn how to improve your chances of obtaining credit.
